The bipolar mode in the Tecaris device can only be used in combination with a bipolar electrode from ASTAR.
The current also flows between the passive and active electrodes, but the difference is that the bipolar applicator has two active and two passive electrodes in one tip, so there is no need to place a separate passive electrode on the patient to close the circuit.
Bipolar therapy is best suited for surface tissue treatments such as scar therapy or female-pattern lipodystrophy. This is because the bipolar applicator tip has four prongs, two of which act as active electrodes and two as passive electrodes. The small distance between the two types of electrodes causes the current to flow in the surface layers, regardless of the selected operating frequency.
